1-A police officer might know that.
Can't this sentence mean three things:
a-Maybe all police officers know that. Maybe it is the kind of thing all police officers know.
b-Any police officer might know that.
c-Maybe there is one specific police officer who knows that.

I think all the three meanings are possible. It depends on how you read it and also on the further context. For example, for the third meaning to be the case, we might have sth like:
A police officer might know that. Yes, John Field. He's the one who might know that. OR There is a police officer who might know that.
