Can I say,

(a) Last night, I was awakened by a sound. I was scared, so I woke up my friends too. / I woke my friends up too.

Vincent, please make these different items. Five different items. They are five different grammar points.

Both of these are correct.

'Wake up' is a separable phrasal verb. This means that the two words can be separated by a noun or a pronoun. You can say:

  • 1) I woke my friends up.
  • 2) I woke them up.

    You can also say:

  • I woke up my friends.
    _______

    What you can't say is:

    3) I woke up them..

    A phrasal verb that is separable can not have the pronoun after the second word, but it can have a noun after the second word, as in 2) above.
