Please tell me the difference between "Last" and "Past" in the following two sentences:

1- I know him for the last two years.

2- I know him for the past two years.

What is the real difference between the two.

Thanks a lot.

"For the last two years" and "for the past two years" have the same meaning: these expressions measure the time of something that has happened or has been happening during the most recent two years, and is still happening.

The tense is not correct in your sentences. "For" + a time expression goes with the present perfect or present perfect progressive. The correct sentences are:

I have known him for the last two years.
I have known him for the past two years.
