Dear Experts,

I recently saw a sentence and I'm not sure if it is grammatically correct.

What would you say to playing tennis at my club?

My question is why we use "playing" in this sentence? Thanks a lot!

The sentence is correct.

"Playing" is a gerund, the noun form of the verb. It is the object of the preposition "to." The sentence is similar in meaning to: "What would you say about playing tennis..." In that sentence, it is easier to see "playing" as the object of a preposition.

"What would you say to" is an idiomatic expression that asks about a person's desire.
