Woman : It's a bit late so I guess after we eat we'll have to take a taxi to the theater.
Man : Alternatively, we could leave now and get something to eat at the restaurant near the theater.

Is it okay to say that 'eat something' instead of 'get something to eat'?

Alternatively, we could leave now and eat something at the restaurant near the theater.

That'll work, Jey. But remember, there are lots of subtle differences that different ways of speaking bring into play. Here are all the options I can think of:

Alternatively, we could leave now and ...

  • eat something
  • get something to eat
  • have something to eat
  • grab a bite (to eat) (shows they're rushed)
  • grab something (to eat) (shows they're rushed)
  • order something (to eat)

... at the restaurant near the theater.

    Thank you, Richard.
Those options are really helpful to me. Smile
