If you mean for "this" to refer to "the subject," I recommend using "it" instead. If you mean for "this" to refer to "the complexity and the flexibility of the subject," I recommend using "these."

On the basis of your writing, I think that you are very likely a native speaker of English. The best way to ask questions about your writing here is to try to identify what you are uncertain about in a given sentence and make that the topic of a thread, using more examples if possible.
