Reply to "Usage of "the" in a gift note - please help"

Hello, Lukas, and welcome to the Grammar Exchange.

The note says:

"For (THE) parents and grandparents of (THE) wonderful girls".

Should it be with "the" or without it?

Both ways are defensible. I think it is better not to use "the." The phrase can be read as implying that the gift is for them—(who are) parents and grandparents of specific wonderful girls—rather than as implying that the gift is for all parents and all grandparents of all wonderful girls in the world.
