Hello, everyone,

Is the use of bearing/bore correct in the following sentences?

1. The candidates bearing roll numbers 1,2,5 and 7 were shortlisted for the interview.

2. The vehicle bearing registration number SH-1258 was seen in the neighborhood around the time of the accident.

3. The slates that bore such numbers/markings were distributed among the children studying in the school.

Thanks.

I dislike that sentence, because to me it  suggests that the candidates were physically marked with those numbers -- even if, strictly speaking, the definition of "bear" doesn't carry that as a necessary implication.

I would much prefer this instead of (1):

1a. The candidates were given roll numbers. Candidates 1, 2, 5, and 7 were shortlisted for the interview.

The first sentence would only be necessary if the intended audience included people who did not already know what the numbers referred to. Ordinarily I don't like to split a sentence in two in revising it, but here I don't see a better way.
