Dear all

As I know, the adjective of benefit is beneficial. However, I Googled and found so many books and websites use benefitial, which I can't find in any dictionaries like Webster, Oxford, Cambridge or Longman.

I would like to know if there really exists another version that is benefitial. If yes, which reference do you suggest? And if no, what can you say about the benefitial that is being used widely on the Internet?

Many thanks.

At Google Books:

641 on benefitial
56,474 on beneficial

Thus close to 1%, thus IMO irrelevant. I wish that most of the issues would settle within 1% ...

Most of that 1% is written by authors with non-native sounding names. For the rest you can take any of the reasons, but mostly carelessness or forced derivation from "to benefit."
