Here you need an adjective. Use: 'defeated'.

Thanks alot. That is what I really think. Yet, what has caused confusion to me is the answer that ONE of the most famous outside books'authors  mentioned. Thanks again. Happy to join the GE.

Hello, he said that"defeatist"is an adjective. So, his answer was" defeatist".
