For a sentence something like “The company was down another half point yesterday”, I took it as “the stock price of the company was down half a percentage point again yesterday”. Am I right?

No. When percentages are provided to refer to the ups and downs of stock prices, that has to be made explicit.

As you can read here, "for stocks, one point equals one dollar."
