Are the words interesting and interested related or different

Original Post

Hello, Favor, and welcome to the Grammar Exchange.

"interesting" and "interested" are both related and different. "interesting" is active, meaning "arousing interest," while "interested" is passive, meaning "experiencing interest."

For example, the book is interesting, so I am interested in the book. Can you see how both words are related and different?

By the way, there are many other similar pairs of words: amusing/amused, boring/bored, tiring/tired, exhausting/exhausted, surprising/surprised, exciting/excited.
