Hi, Andrew—"Timing" is fine in that sentence. Not only would "timings" seem awkward to me in that sentence, but it would seem to change the meaning to one that is not intended, namely, to events of elections' being timed by people.

I totally agree. Being abstract, singular "timing" refers to plural "elections." Something similar could be said of "the planning of elections."
