Hi,

1. "She tries really hard to impress them."

Does it mean that she tries hard to make a good impression on them?

2. Is there any subtle difference between make a good impression on someone and leave a good impression on someone?

Thank you very much.

Hi, Kuen,

Yes, it does.

Unfortunately, your question is ungrammatical. Bare infinitivals cannot function as objects of prepositions. You need to use gerunds here. You mean to ask:

  • Is there any subtle difference between making a good impression on someone and leaving a good impression on someone?

"Make" is the verb to use in that context. With "leave" we say "leave someone with a good impression." Leaving someone with a good impression is the effect of making a good impression on that person.
