Is it possible to use 'line' instead of 'row'?

When we went to the theater, we sat in the front ...........

a) line b) row c) queue

The correct answer is 'b'. I know that 'line' can be used instead of 'queue', but I read recently that 'line' can be used instead of 'row', too. Is that true? If that is true, does this mean 'line' is OK in this sentence?

LDOCE is very clear:

2 a line of seats in a theatre* or cinema We sat in the front row.

"front line" means something else.

The word "line" can be used to define the term "row," but they are usually used in different contexts.

(*) BrE spelling for "theater" (AmE)
