"Make sure you've locked *up* the door before leaving." (New TOEIC phrases, Ivy)

I feel that the use of locking up the door is odd. Is it correct here? How about leaving the word UP out? I think "lock UP" should collocate with a space, such as to lock up the warehouse/shop, NOT with a DOOR. Am I right? Thanks!
