Microscope

Hello, everyone,

"Microscope

noun

an instrument consisting essentially of a lens or combination of lenses, for making very small objects, as microorganisms, look larger so that they can be seen and studied"

The above definition of 'microscope' is listed as the third (one) on the following link.

https://www.collinsdictionary....y/english/microscope

Does the removal of the possible confusion account for the presence of the first comma in the definition above, or is there more to it?

Thanks.

Ahmad,

The short answer is that the comma after "lenses" is just wrong.  It needs to be omitted.

Thank you very much for providing a link to your source, by the way.  It is often difficult to challenge an alternative source of information.  But since I was able to read the actual quote in context, I am confident that my answer is correct.
