Hello, Essam Wahba—The phrase "could have travelled by car" indicates past possibility in that context. Notice that it would be absurd to say, "I had the ability to travel by car, but, because I was too tired, I did not have the ability to travel by car." That is a contradiction. However, the following is perfectly fine:

  • It was possible for me to travel by car, but I travelled by train as I was too tired to drive.
