In the following MCQ, the expected answer should be "process". It's OK. But what about "mechanism" & "operation" in such a context?

In my opinion, it's not a question of "mechanism" and "operation" being outright incorrect, but rather of "process" being more appropriate. We do speak about "natural processes," but not so much about "natural mechanisms" or "natural operations." The latter always seem to involve some human intervention.
