Reported speech

I told him that I.................. football.

Which one is more suitable? (a) and (c) don't seem right. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks

Hi, Yama,

Do you hate football now? If so, both (a) and (b) are acceptable answers, (b) involving backshifted indirect speech.

Or did you just hate football in the past? In that case, (b) and (d) are both acceptable answers. Answer (d) uses backshift. Answer (b) doesn't.

The only answer that is ungrammatical is (c). Obviously, you can't use the third-person-singular present -s ending with the first person, in any context.
