I just want to know what does "to be" mean and what is the use of it?
The structure above is equivalent to:
- Akhila knows (that) these are mere illusions...
There are some verbs of mental process that accept both patterns:
- Verb + that + Noun Phrase + tensed form of be
- Verb + Noun Phrase + to be
- She knows (that) they are illusions / She knows them to be illusions.
- I found (that) they were illusions / I found them to be illusions.
