The point is that "color of car" is a unit of meaning, like "type of woman" (you wouldn't say "type of a woman"), "size of shirt" or "brand of whisky."

Me_IV, please note your typo. You surely meant to type "your favorite color," not "you favorite color." Gustavo's answer concerns the typo-free version.
