Hi, Ahmed,
Hello. Which tense is correct in the following sentence? Why?
- If I am checking the report, I (don't - won't) answer any calls.
Thank you.
With no further context, I see that 'don't' is the better choice here. That means there is a certain report to check every day and it is my habit not answer any calls while I am checking it.
- If I am checking the report, I don't answer any calls. (General habit)
However, if the speaker is thinking of a certain situation, 'won't' will be the better answer.
- If I am checking the report (tomorrow morning), I won't answer any calls. (specific situation).
