That in place of where

Choose: I' like to spend this holiday in a place ( that - where) I can relax. What do you think?Read More...
Hi, Ahmed Towab, Yes, that's right. You can also omit 'that'. Here's a comment on a similar point from a book by RODNEY HUDDLESTON and GEOFFREY K. PULLUM: V. ADJUNCT OF PLACE a place [(that) you can relax _] "The example in [v], with the head noun place , is perfectly acceptable, but in sentences with head nouns less likely to suggest location, a wh relative would normally be required." - That is, we would say This is the web page where the claim was first made, not * This is the web page...Read More...

Hello, Treasure, Where have you taken the sentence above from? It doesn't make any sense to me. It's like saying: - You didn't invite them, so why did you? (If the person didn't invite them, it makes no sense to ask why he/she invited them.)Read More...

incorrect syntax

I am not an expert but I don't think this quoted sentence feels well and I will explain below. I would very much appreciate if an expert could confirm my understanding. "The body is exposed to a wide variety of foreign compounds, called xenobiotics. Exposure to some such compounds is unintentional (e.g., environmental or food substances), while others are deliberately used as drugs" My understanding: The sentence starting with "exposure" is broken after "while" because this conjunctive...Read More...
